Imbolc

Waters punch, wind pulls

bones curl like waves

pushed from the belly of earth.

Sky of delicate cracks,

weave of weighted wool

in this cradle of keening.

Lichens stretch through

liminal space

seeds pivot in Fibonacci form

while this body twists widdershins

like a tempest in a teacup

to the kingpin of the soul.

Watch the old pine still standing,

it’s slow spiral dance

to music of what’s to come

in poetry, craft and prophecy –

flaming daughter of Dagda

light of truth and blessing

lead us through this darkness

Imbolc is the Celtic celebration of a cross-quarter day (Feb 1st), halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It symbolizes the quickening of spring in the northern hemisphere, it is the first tremor of sap awakening – a time for planting seeds for the future.
