Playing with Plants: A Course in Herbal Medicine

This course is for beginners, herbalists, medicine makers, healthcare practitioners, and anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with the world of medicinal plants. These are hands-on, dynamic sessions diving into our holistic connection to the herbs that surround us. Come and challenge your mind, heal your body and replenish your spirit in the magical world of the Caretaker’s Garden.

The teachers:

Wendy Read and Karin Uphoff are long-time friends and colleagues. They both have academic science degrees combined with over 50 combined years of education and experience as herbalists, clinical healers, plant spirit practitioners, medicine makers and teachers. Because they approach herbalism from a scientific, medical, and spiritual background, students come away from their classes with a broad perspective and practical experience in the science and art of herbal medicine.

In This Course You Will Explore:

*Physiology through the lens of the “elemental body”

*The wisdom offered by the earth, air, fire, water and ether that surrounds us

*Walking the earth with new eyes that seek out the herbal allies around us

*Harvesting and preserving herbs with communication and respect

*Making your own medicines for family or commerce

*Making your own first aid kit for home or travel

Students should be prepared to

Use all of their senses to investigate plants, walk in the woods, get their hands dirty, play in the kitchen, embody herbal wisdom, enjoy science, witness magic, be engaged, and  learn by doing.
